How to determine the orientation of your greenhouse

If you are considering buying a greenhouse, it is important to think carefully about where you will place it. The orientation of a greenhouse has a major influence on the activities you wish to perform in it, whether that is growing plants or relaxing. Read this article to find out what you should consider when installing your greenhouse.

Based on the function of the greenhouse

When installing a hobby greenhouse for growing plants, it is best to choose a location with as much sunlight as possible. A south-facing orientation in full sun is preferred. Because the sun shines on the greenhouse walls for a long time, the interior warms up, creating a pleasant climate for your plants.

Please note: in summer, a greenhouse in full sun can become too hot. Fortunately, there are various ways to protect your plants from the heat. Discover our tips in this article.

If the greenhouse is intended more as a pavilion, you will want to choose a location with some shade or where the sun does not shine all day. This prevents it from becoming uncomfortably warm, allowing you to fully enjoy the tranquility.

Tailored to the surroundings of the greenhouse

In addition to the function of your greenhouse and the orientation of the sun, you must also consider the environment in which you place it. Consider, for example, a high wall next to the greenhouse that blocks the light, a small tree next to the greenhouse that will provide significant shade later on, a neighbor’s fence that might be replaced by a higher one, etc.

In addition to the function of your greenhouse and the orientation of the sun, you must also take other factors into account. Therefore, make informed choices to ensure that your greenhouse receives exactly as much sunlight as you desire.
